York- Freda L. Weaver passed away December 16, 2016 at the age of 88.

Freda was born in York, ME and spent most of her life in this town that she loved. Freda taught elementary school for many years, first in Kittery, followed by a job in Germany. Freda then tutored individual students before returning to a full-time position in Eliot.  Freda retired many years ago to enjoy decades of travel and adventures with her husband, family, and friends.

Freda's time was also devoted to supporting numerous local theater groups and playing cards whenever a whist group or cribbage tournament was gathered.  She was active in her church, community, and many organizations including the Maine Retired Teachers Association and the North American Family Campers Association.

Freda is survived by her three children, Margaret Louise (and her spouse Eileen Woodruff) of Whitinsville MA, Elizabeth Ann of Groton CT, and Richard Francis of Kittery ME.  She has one grandchild, Jennifer Carolyn Weaver, who lives in Germany. Freda was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Robert Nelson.

Services: Visiting hours will be at the Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Rd, Kittery, ME, on Tuesday, December 20th from 5 to 7 PM.  A funeral mass will be held at St. Christopher by the Sea Church at 301-319 York Street, York, Maine, Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 11 AM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the York Community Service Association Food Pantry of York, ME or the Good Shepard Foodbank of Maine in Auburn, ME.
