Frederick C. Lentz Sr., 89, of Somersworth, NH, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026. He leaves behind Dolores R. (Dubois) Lentz, his wife of 66 years.

Fred was born on November 25, 1936, in Latrobe, PA, to the late Margaret M. (Marks) and Russell T. Lentz. In his youth, he worked as a caddy with Arnold Palmer at Latrobe Country Club. At 18, he joined the Air Force, where he served for four years as an aircraft electrical repairman. After basic training in Texas, he was stationed at Pease Air Force Base in Newington, NH. During his service he was periodically deployed to Greenland to repair aircraft. He completed his service at Pease Air Force Base where he had met Dolores.

Following his military service, Fred began a career with the GE Meter Division in Somersworth, where he held various positions, spending much of his career as a set-up machinist. He worked there for 25 years before retiring. After retirement, he continued to put his mechanical skills to work as an employee of Cleary Cleaners and beyond. Amongst family and friends, there was a simple answer whenever something broke: “Call Dad” or “Call Fred.” Whether it was an appliance, a car, or something no one could quite figure out, Fred was always willing to take a look and lend a hand.

Fred will be remembered as a hardworking and devoted family man who was always ready for a road trip or activity. He was passionate about bowling. He also played softball and golf. He enjoyed listening to country music as well as going hunting and fishing. Fred especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved dogs including those chosen as family pets, those visiting, or those who somehow just seemed to find a home at Memère and Pepère’s house.

Fred was predeceased by his son, Ronald; his parents, Margaret and Russell Lentz; his brothers, Wayne, Gerald, Kenneth, and Norman Lentz; and his sister, Miriam (Sis) Blystone.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores; his children, Frederick C. Lentz Jr. and Mary Grace (Fabros), of Lebanon, ME; Robert Lentz and Arlene Mulliken, of Sanbornville, NH; Lynn Lentz of Dover, NH; Kevin Lentz and Jennifer (Werkelin), of Rollinsford, NH; and Darlene Purington of Derry, NH.

He especially cherished the time he spent with Aaron, Kyle, Jordan, Kelvin, Connor, and James, as well as his other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

His family will carry with them the many memories, stories, and lessons Fred shared throughout his life.

A private celebration of Fred’s life will be held for family and close friends.
