Obituary

Gardner Stanley Tobey Sr. passed peacefully on December 4, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born at home with a midwife, on November 8, 1933, to parents, Harry M. and Valentine Rose Tobey, and raised in Kittery Point, Maine.

Gardner would go on to serve in the US Army, being honorably discharged, after a deployment in the Korean War. He also was an avid competitive water skier.  After his service he became a lobsterman, then a skill construction machine operator working in many areas of the country, in between periods of restaurant operation.  And in his later years he was known for his catering, including the creation of sophisticated mobile roasting equipment. He loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; whether it was cooking for everyone or hunting with them, or just going out to breakfast with everyone.

He is survived by three children: daughter Tammie J. Tischler; sons, Gardner Stanley Tobey, Jr., and William Harry Tobey; stepdaughter, Gail A. Armsden; 8 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, as well as 22 nieces and nephews.

Gardner was predeceased by his wife, Anita Tobey, his parents, as well as his nine siblings.

There will be a celebration of life/pig roast in announced for mid June. Care for the Tobey family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey & Son Funeral Home.
