Obituary

Somersworth: George J. Brown, 70, of Green St. died January 12, 2012 at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital following a period if failing health. He was born July 23, 1941 in Brentwood, NH to Joseph and Gertrude (Fecteau) Brown. George proudly served his country in the Air Force. Prior to retirement, he was a sheet metal fabricator at Goss in Dover. He was a communicant of St. Martin Church in Somersworth. George was a 33-year member of the American Legion Post # 69, Somersworth. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. Members of his family include his mother, Gertrude Jasley of Merrimac, MA, his wife, Mary (Gourdouros) Brown, a son, David Brown of Mt. Laurel, NJ, a daughter, Debra (Brown) Cowan and husband Gary of Nottingham, a sister, Carol Sowick of Merrimac, MA, 5 grandchildren, Brett, Logan, Jacob, Alexis, and Taylor-Bay. Also, a great granddaughter, Mahlon. A nephew Michael Sowick and many cousins He was preceded in death by his father, and a sister, Jackie Brown of Epping. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 pm at Bernier Funeral Home 49 South St.. Somersworth. American Legion rites will be at 5 pm A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11am at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in St. Martin Church, Somersworth with rev. Michael S. Taylor, pastor as celebrant. Burial will be in the NH State Veteran s Cemetery, Boscawen. Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Fund 370 7th Avenue, Suite 1802 New York, New York 10001 Arrangements are entrusted to the Bernier Funeral Home, Somersworth.
