Kittery Point- George "Dean" Varney III, age 60, died suddenly on February 18, 2017 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Dean was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on October 4, 1956. He was a son of George D. Varney Jr. and Joan C. (Fiske) Varney. He was raised in Kittery point, attended local schools including R.W Traip Academy. Dean's life and passion was spent on the water as a fishing boat captain, both locally and most recently for a number of years in Alaska. In the winter months, he loved the British Virgin Islands. He spent his time there playing the guitar and enjoying his many friends he acquired over his years of visiting.
He is survived by his loving family, parents George D. Varney Jr and Joan C. Varney of Kittery point, siblings : Kathy Varney and Scott Varney, his niece Mindy Glover, her husband Jeremy and son Quinn. Aunt Shirley Anderson and family, Aunt Josephine Robbins and family, Uncle Arthur Fiske and family, Cousins Sandy McCormick and husband Tom, Michael Paige, Benjamin Paige and Alisha Furbish.
Dean had many friends and "extended family" that he loved and enjoyed including his best friend Freddie Snell and son Trey and all those in Tennessee. His many friends and family at Ivan's in the British Virgin Islands. And others too numerous to mention.
Friends are invited to visit with Dean's family on Friday February 24, 2017 from 6-8pm in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old post Road Kittery Maine 03904. A memorial service will be celebrated in the funeral home on Saturday February 25, 2016 at 10am with the Rev. Dr. Beth Hoffman officiating.
