South Berwick – George N. Foster, 79, of South Berwick, Maine, passed away on December 19, 2015 at his home.

He was born on January 3, 1936 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, a son of George C. and Annie (Cotton) Foster , attended Traip Academy in Kittery and served in the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic.

From 1967 to 1980, George was employed as an inspector at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard in California and more recently at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, from 1980 until his retirement in 1993.

George loved planes and anything mechanical, always ready to give a helping hand to family and friends.

A sister, Winnifred E. Pendleton, predeceased him.

Survivors include, a son, Robert C. Foster of Maine; his siblings, Barbara Turner and her husband, Bob of Rochester, NH, Paul Foster of York, ME, Arnold Foster and his wife, Ellen of Danville, VT, Carl Foster and his wife, Shirley of Farmington, ME, Priscilla Newton and her husband, Boyd of Gilmanton Iron Works, NH, and Diann Foster of Buckfield, ME; many nieces and nephews.

Service: Following George's wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: American Cancer Society, Northern New England Region, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island Suite 300, Topsham, Maine 04086. Interment will be held privately in the family lot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Eliot, ME.
