Obituary

Somersworth- George L. Fournier, 72 formerly of Depot Street, died on October 26, 2012 at St. Ann s in Dover. Born in Somersworth on March 11, 1940, he was one of seven children to Joseph and Florida ( Lepage) Fournier. He attended local schools including Holy Trinity and Somersworth High School. Following high school he graduated from the apprenticeship program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He worked for more than ten years at the Navy base in Dahlgren, VA as a weapons design specialist. While working in VA he made his home in Fredericksburg. George returned to Somersworth and continued his career at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he worked in the design department, he was known for his knowledge and skill designing and maintaining water purification systems on US Submarines. Following over thirty years of government service, he worked for many years at Westwind Florist, where he dearly enjoyed the folks he worked with and the people he delivered to. Active in his community he enjoyed volunteering at Holy Trinity at the weekly BINGO game, an avid golfer he enjoyed keeping score at the Sunningdale Profile Sr. golf league and looked forward to meeting with friends at the morning Burger King coffee crew. He worked hard to keep the family home a welcoming place for generations of family to visit and feel at home, always lending a hand to friends and family when they needed a hand up. He will be dearly missed by his family, sisters; Elaine and her husband Nick Tsopas of Dover and Claire Ramus of Quaker Hill, CT, brothers; Richard Dickie Fournier of Dover and Roger and his wife Susan Fournier of Phoenix, Az, and his sister in law and devoted caregiver Betty Fournier. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents and brothers Lionel and Robert Fournier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday November 2nd at 11am in Holy Trinity Church with Fr. Michael Taylor as celebrant. A time of refreshment and sharing will follow at St. Martins Church. Friends may visit with Georges family on Thursday from 6-8pm in the Bernier Funeral Home 49 South Street Somersworth NH. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George's memory to New Hampshire Catholic Charities 215 Myrtle Street Manchester, NH 03104-4354. Care for the Fournier family has been entrusted to the Bernier Funeral home.
