George J. Gagnon, 81, died August 9, 2013 in Dover. A lifelong Somersworth resident, he was born here October 31, 1931 the son of Henri and Clarida (Turgeon) Gagnon. George was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Navy. He retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he had been a pipe fitter for 21 years. He enjoyed membership in the American Legion Post #47 Rollinsford. An avid sports fan, he closely followed the Boston Red Sox and The New England Patriots and enjoyed an occasional round of golf. Members of his family include his wife of 61 years, Ann (Filion) Gagnon, His sons, George, Jr. Chuck of Virginia, Marc and Frances of Michigan, Dan and Tom and Karen of Somersworth, his daughters, Diane Roderick of Nashua, Denise and Bud Jones, Claire and Paul Hackworth and Lori and Dave Levesque all of Somersworth. Also, his siblings, Roland, Paul and Andy Gagnon and Anna Charpentier, as well as 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Therese, his siblings, Maurice, Leo, Richard, Raymond, Armand, Antoinette, Lillian, Eva and Rita. Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Bernier Funeral Home 49 South St. Somersworth A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in St. Martin Church, Somersworth with Rev. Michael S. Taylor as celebrant. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth Family flowers only, donations may be made to Wentworth Homecare and Hospice.
