Obituary

Cape Neddick- George "Tom" Thomas Gillibrand, 64, of Cape Neddick, passed away on January 28, 2016, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Boston, MA on May 16, 1951, Tom was a son of the late George Elmer and Gretchen (Sayward) Gillibrand. He was raised in Billerica, MA where he attended school until his early teens when he and his family moved to Kittery. After his graduation from R.W. Traip Academy in 1969, he proudly enlisted in the United States Coast Guard as a Bosn's Mate until 1973.

On May 4, 1974, Tom married his loving wife Pamela and together they built a home in Cape Neddick. There they had many fond memories playing horseshoes, taking care of their numerous animals and entertaining great friends. Together they raised their children, Ian and Brianna, there until Pam's death in August 2003.

In 2004, Tom and Cindy M. Frisbee became a couple after years of friendship adding her and her son, Robert Ficke to the family. They shared eleven wonderful years together living in Kittery Point and Cape Neddick before their marriage on December 15, 2015. Being avid New England Patriots fans the two refused to ever miss a game together.

Tom was a very talented and creative man and because of that he held several jobs throughout his life. After serving in the Coast Guard, he worked in the Sail Loft at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. After which Tom worked in many kitchens at local restaurants such as Boomerangs, the Rusty Hammer, the Lobster Barn, and Cap'n Simeon's Galley. Tom is most well known for his outstanding carpentry skills. He had a hand in building many homes, including his own, and businesses leaving his mark throughout the area.

Tom was a well known local musician, talented in guitar and flute, but was best known for his abilities as a lead singer. Over the years he was in many bands with great friends, including Sea Smoke in the early years just out of high school, as well as Beggarman Thief, and Thick as Thieves.

Besides his beloved wife, Cindy, Tom leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Ian and Sara Gillibrand of Savannah, GA and a daughter, Brianna Gillibrand, of Cape Neddick; a daughter, Maria and granddaughters, Shannon and Summer; a stepson, Robert Ficke of Mayport, FL; a father- and mother-in-law, Frank and Bonnie Frisbee, of Kittery Point; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Barbara Gillibrand, of Wells, and a niece, Jennifer, and grandniece and grandnephew, Isabelle and Alex, of Penacook, NH; and two foster brothers, Scotty Trevett and his wife, Evelyn of Burlington, MA and Arnold Trevett and his wife, Jane of Middleton, MD.

Tom also leaves behind numerous friends that he considered family. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
