Obituary

George H. LaFrance, 91, died March 18, 2014 following a period of failing health. He was born July 9, 1922 in Somersworth the son of Philip and Maria (St. Pierre) LaFrance. George was educated in Somersworth Schools. He worked on Liberty Ships at the South Portland Shipyard as a pipe welding instructor. He enlisted in the US Army-Air Corps Flight Training Program in 1943, graduating as a multi-engine pilot in 1945, and was later licensed as a Commercial Multi Engine pilot. He was a representative for John Hancock Life Insurance Company, and he served as manager in the Fitchburg, MA District. He attended Clark University and obtained his Chartered Life Underwriter Designation. Later, he taught Economics and Estate Planning. He served his way through the Chairs of the Montachusetts Life Underwriters Association and on the Board of Estate Planning Council, also, Secretary for the Boy Scout Council. He managed the Life & Health Department of a large General Insurance Agency, qualifying for the Million Dollar Round Table. He retired in 1988 as Director of Agencies for Union Saint Jean-Baptiste of Woonsocket, R.I. Members of the family include his wife Rolande T. (Houde) LaFrance, his son, Dr. Marc (Maureen) LaFrance of New Bern, NC, his daughters, Gisele (Bernard) Tisserand of Exeter, and Dr. Monique (Gary Lee) LaFrance of Topeka, KS., his grandchildren, Sean, Ryan (Alicia), and Caitlin LaFrance, Jessica, Philip (Lauren) Barton, Luc and Andre Pourmirza. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Barton, his siblings, Rosaire LaFrance, Simone Gosselin, Joan LaFrance, Bertha LaFrance, Jeannette LaFrance and Mabel Cantin. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7pm at Bernier Funeral Home 49 South St. Somersworth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2pm in St. Mary Church, Chestnut St. Dover.
