George R
Seward
Feb 22, 1931 — Mar 9, 2024
Dover- George R. Seward, 93 of Plaza Drive in Dover quietly passed away on March 9, 2024, at Dover Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born in Kittery Maine on February 22, 1931, he was a son of the late Samuel and Mabel S. (Roberts) Seward.
George was raised locally, graduating from R.W. Traip Academy with the class of 1948. Following High School, George served his country in the United States Air Force.
He was a familiar face in and around Kittery. He built his Ice Cream stand on the Kittery traffic circle, the "Do Drop In", where he enjoyed all the baseball teams dropping in after practice and games. He was always very generous in the serving size and sharing free "kiddie cones" with the little ones. It was a place many in the community enjoyed gathering at and creating wonderful memories.
George or as many knew him as "Squashy" retired as a US Mail carrier in Kittery after many years. He was always willing to share a memory of your family as he probably knew your grandparents, parents, siblings or all of them.
He was active in his community, being passionate about giving, especially to the folks most in need. He enjoyed membership in the Kittery Lions, serving as President in 1969, Naval Lodge #164, KORA Temple Shrine and The First Congregational Church of Eliot, UCC.
He always enjoyed "Getting Out" or going for a ride especially if it's in search of lobster, steamed, in a grilled roll, or in a chowder, it didn't matter to him they were all enjoyed, and if you threw in a beer with it, it was even better, "Ayup" ! While out, he enjoyed commenting on how much Portsmouth and Kittery had grown and how many new big buildings there are, and no ride was complete without a trip by the old home on the Rotary Circle.
George was a talented woodworker, creating wooden decorations for the holidays for all to display in their yards, sharing beautifully made rocking chairs, doll cribs, highchairs and lovingly made study desks. There are so many other cherished wooden treasures to remember him by.
George is survived by his children: (2) sons, Kevin Seward (Barbara). Kelvin R. Seward (Karen Bates) and his two daughters, Jaclyn and Brian Kelley, Cassie and Joe Melanson. (2) daughters; Kari L. White her spouse Casey and their son and daughter, Dustin and Brooke White, Heidi and David Suskin. Kristine A. Audet (Roger K. Wittner), her son Richard S.
