Gilbert L. Stebbins, 90, of Kittery, ME , passed peacefully into God's waiting arms, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 16th, 2023.
Gil was born on April 23rd, 1933, to parents Lester and Ruth Stebbins in Syracuse, NY. After graduating from Baldwinsville High School, Gil attended Oswego State College, earning a teacher's degree in 1954.
After graduation, Gil entered the teaching profession, and in 1955 married the love of his life, Marilyn June Yager. They have 3 children, a daughter Cynthia born in 1958, and twin sons Douglas and David born in 1963. Gil and Marilyn raised their family in North Syracuse, NY, and were active members of Pitcher Hill Community Church.
After 33 years of teaching in Liverpool, NY, Gil and Marilyn retired to North Port, FL in 1989. Gil was involved with Christ United Methodist Church as a member of the choir, men's club and Bible Study Group. In May of 2013, Gil and Marilyn moved to Kittery, ME and settled at MeetingHouse Village. For the past 10 years, Gil has been a member of First United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, NH.
Gil is survived by his wife Marilyn of 67 years, daughter Cynthia Martin of Rangeley, ME, son David (Joni) Stebbins of South Berwick, ME, son Douglas (Jennifer) of Saco, ME. Sister Margaret Pum, Rochester, NY, brother Francis Stebbins, Orchard Park, NY. 5 grandsons - Justin, Jordan, Jeffrey (Amy), Thomas, and Michael (Samantha). Granddaughter - Emily. 2 Great Grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Gil spent several years as a sales representative for World Book Encyclopedia. He enjoyed bike riding, camping, swimming, playing games, sharing jokes and making people laugh. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his church, for his kind and compassionate heart and sense of humor.
The family would like to send our heartfelt gratitude to the "Angels" at Durgin Pines for their love and compassionate care for Gil.

A celebration of Gil's life will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 1:00pm at First United Methodist Church, 129 Miller Ave., Portsmouth, NH. Reception to follow.
