Glennis
Cayer
Oct 30, 1953 — Sep 9, 2022
Glennis Cayer, of Eliot, ME, passed away on September 9th, 2022. Born on October 30, 1953 in Greene, ME, Glennis was the fourth of six children to long time dairy farmer, Walter Bates, and his wife Esther. Glennis attended Leavitt High School in Turner, Maine, graduating in 1972. She often was referred to as Glenny or Grammie.
In 1972, Glennis met the love of her life, Cliff, on a blind date set up by her cousin. Despite Glennis beating Cliff at putt putt golf on their first date, the two were smitten and got married about a year later on February 10, 1973. Since Cliff was in the military, they spent the next 20 years in various states but ultimately settled back home (Maine) in Kittery where Cliff retired, allowing Glennis to be closer to her the family. The love birds were married for almost 50 years and had two boys, Mike and Nick.
Glennis was a self described "simple" woman and what defined her was her true passions - family and faith. She was the "hub" to her five siblings; often relied upon to make peace, listen without judgement and bring her siblings together. Glennis was also an amazing wife and mother, selfless and always available to listen and offer advise when asked. She thrived at being a Grammie to her five grandchildren who lit up her life and brought out her amazing smile and infectious laugh. She would drop anything for her family and she would trade anything in the world to be with them, either playing card games or Yahtzee or just talking and telling jokes. Glennis was a woman of God, attending the Mill Church and its predecessor for over 30 years. Every Sunday you would find Glennis at church. She was the church treasurer and would periodically lead the Sunday worship. Her faith, along with her amazing outlook on life, was so inviting.
Glennis is survived by her husband, Cliff, sons, daughter-in-laws and grandaughters, Mike, Tasha, Maiya and Ellie of Greenland, NH and Nick, Stacey, Emma, Mackenzie and Zoey of Needham, MA; her five siblings and their spouses Wendell and Shelly Bates, of Fort Fairfield, Maine, Roland and Connie Bates of Sebring, Florida, Harold and Sandy Bates of Greene, Maine, Trenna and Wes Fulghum, of Pensacola, Florida and Carleen and Rich Foisy, of Greene, Maine; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Walter and Esther Bates.
