Feb 2, 1926 — Nov 8, 2017
Eliot - Grace Dugas passed from this life on November 8, 2017, surrounded by, love, laughter, and tears from her family, and her Edgewood Centre Family. Without a doubt we knew she felt that love, and will truly be missed by all hearts she touched.
Grace Elizabeth Dugas (Horvath) was born on February 2, 1926, during a snowstorm on a Tuesday, and for the line in the poem, "Tuesdays child is full of grace", is how her name came to be. Born to, Bela P. Horvath, and Ellen M. (Sweeney) Horvath. Grace was a tap dancer, and a roller-skater early on; she later graduated, Class of 1944 from Medford High School, Medford, MA, with ambitions to become a nurse. Grace met Patrick J. Dugas while volunteering at the USO in Boston, MA. They married on June 13, 1948, lived in Sanford, Alfred, and Eliot, ME, and had 2 children they loved very much. Sadly Grace's husband passed in 1989. Grace found love again, in her 70's, with her sweetheart Joe. They enjoyed many good times, and traveling together.
Grace loved traveling, and was an avid reader, loved movies, avid dancer, runner, walker; doing most of these activities right up until age 91. Grace's passion, along with tap and clog dancing, was to perform and making people laugh. She joined various groups such as The Kitchen Kut Ups, the Notes, Sea Side Cloggers, Maine Wood Cloggers. Grace also Represented Maine, in 1990, at the Ms. America pageant in Atlantic City. Grace was a long time communicant and usher, as well as an Ecumenical Minister for St. Raphaels Church in Kittery, Maine. Grace was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary in Eliot, serving as President for some of that time. Grace enjoyed volunteering as a Cub Scout leader.
Her greatest joy, and light in her life, would be her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved them so much; she just loved children! Grace worked at a Daycare for a few years, finding joy in helping the children she worked with. Grace worked fulltime at Data General for many years before retiring.
Grace was Predeceased by Husband Patrick Dugas, Sisters: Marie Mackenzie, and Pauline Knuth, and sweetheart Joseph Polazzi. She leaves behind her little brother Baylor Horvath, who she adored all her life, her Children: Patrick, and wife Betty, Margaret and husband Jim, Grandsons: Jimmy and wife Pauline, Clifford, Christopher, and friend Melissa, Kyle, Matthew, and Casey, Granddaughters: Claire, and husband William, and Elizabeth, and Fiance Anthony, Great Grandsons: Landen, Mialz, Aaron, Archer, and Crixus. She treasured them all, including her many new friends at Edgewood Centre. Grace made sure they knew they were loved, and how much she appreciated them for the level of care she received.
Pastor Gumm visited Grace for many years. He was able to see her close to her passing to pray for her; Grace's Family thanks you so much for this. The Family wishes to express so many heartfelt thanks for everyone who works at Edgewood Centre. You truly made her life there full of joy, love, and caring; but above all, dignity.
