Obituary

Eliot-Hector W. Mackenzie Jr, 88 of Eliot, formerly a long time resident and businessman in Kittery, died on July 27, 2024 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital following a period of failing health.

A true Maine native, Bob was born in Kittery on January 30, 1936 a son of the late Hector W. Mackenzie Sr and Marguerite (Swett) Mackenzie.

Following School Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Era.

Active in his community he owned and operated MacKenzies Hardware and MacKenzies Home Improvement for over fifty-eight years. Later in life he embraced his passion for toy trains, operating "Railway City" buying and selling toy trains all over the world.

Bob was also active in Law Enforcement for decades, serving the Kittery Police Department for many years, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Following his time in Kittery, he served the residents of Eliot for many more years on the Eliot Police Department retiring in 2003.

He served his community in many ways including over fifty-six years in the Kittery & Eliot Lions Club, serving as Deputy District Governor 41L, and was honored to be named "Lion of the Year" in 2014-2015.  He was also an active member of the Living Water United Methodist Church in Eliot for many years.

He leaves behind his loving wife of forty-four years Lorraine ( Morrell ) MacKenzie, son Michael MacKenzie and his wife Karen, son Richard Wood, daughter Carol and her husband Marc Mercier, daughter Janet Bergeron and a son Jeff MacKenzie, twenty-four grand and fourteen great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, a brother Howard MacKenzie, sisters Barbara MacKenzie and Sharon Hunkins and brother-in-law Vincent. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother James MacKenzie and sister Marguerite Fournier and a daughter Jennifer Rankin.

Friends are invited to visit with Bob's family on Tuesday August 6, 2024 from 4-6pm in the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904. A funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday August 7, 2024 at 10am in the Living Water United Methodist Church 238 Harold L. Dow Hwy- Route 236 Eliot, Maine 03903, followed by a luncheon at the Regatta Room in Eliot. Family flowers are welcome, others may donate in his memory to the Eliot Lions Club POB 109 Eliot Maine 03903 if you wish.
