Eliot- Helen V. Handfield, 72 of Boyce Road in Eliot died on March 16, 2017 at her home. Born in Dover, NH on May 16, 1944 she was a daughter of the the late Oscar and Helene (Johanson) Boyce.
She was raised in and attended schools in Eliot, graduating from Eliot High School with the class of 1962. Following school she and her husband Donald Shilko enjoyed making Eliot their home and raising a family.
Helen worked for many years as the well known Sales Manager for Eldredge Lumber where she enjoyed working with the contractors and coworkers until her retirement.
She met and later in life married her husband Roland Handfield who passed away in 2007. Together they enjoyed years of travel and many wonderful cruises especially to Alaska and the Caribbean.
She opened her home up to many rescued animals and had a strong love of any animal she could help. She attended the First Congregational Church of Eliot United Church of Christ where she was known and loved by many.
Her first love was unquestionably her family, her daughter Sandra Olsen of Rollinsford, NH, grandchildren Paul Olsen of Rollinsford, NH and Andrew K. Olsen of Eliot, great grandchildren; Cole, Colby, Jacob, Teigan and Sean, and many nieces and nephews and her sister in law and. Friend Nancy Shapleigh. She was predeceased. By her parents, her siblings Walter, Richard, Chet, and Bill Boyce and Eleanor Lunn.
Friends are invited to visit with Helens family on Wednesday March 22, 2017 from 6-8pm in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904. A memorial service will be celebrated on Thursday March 23, 2017 at 10 am in her church, The First Congregational Church of Eliot UCC 1361 State Road Eliot, ME 03903. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the NH SPCA POB 196, 104 Portsmouth Ave Stratham, NH 03885.
