Kittery - Helen Janice (Jan) Fletcher, 93, of Kittery, Maine, died peacefully on March 21 at York Hospital in York, Maine –with her loving family by her side. She had resided at Kittery Estates during the last year of her life and was very happy there. Jan was born November 1, 1922 in Kittery Point, the daughter of Edith (Seaward) and William Hackney. She was the wife of the late Arthur O. Fletcher who died in May 2013. They shared 67 wonderful years together.

Jan is survived by two daughters, Gail E. Bradbard of South Berwick, Maine, Wendy Hughes and her husband Brad of Gainesville, Virginia and a daughter-in-law, Gerry Fletcher of Kittery Point, Maine.  Jan also leaves six grandchildren; Tami Schoff and her husband Jimmy, Matthew Bradbard, Nathan Fletcher and his wife Lindsay, Sally Fletcher, Brian Fletcher and Alisha Hughes and four great grandchildren Taylar and Ryan Schoff, Khamani Hughes and Benjamin Fletcher. Jan was always an enthusiastic supporter of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities.

Jan attended school in Kittery Point, Maine until the fourth grade when she moved to Lynn, Massachusetts. She returned to Kittery Point for 6th grade and then moved to Washington D.C. where she graduated from Eastern High School with the class of 1939. After graduation, she returned to Kittery Point and was employed as a telephone operator at New England Telephone & Telegraph in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  In December of 1946 she married Arthur O. Fletcher, Jr.  Together they built their house on George Street and raised their family in Kittery, Maine.

Jan was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Kittery Point where she sang with the church choir, was involved in the Ladies Missionary Society and served as a Deaconess and Trustee. She and her husband Arthur spent many years delivering Meals on Wheels. They also enjoyed spending summer vacations at Mousam Lake and creating family memories from their camp time there.  Jan's greatest joy in life was her family.
