Herbert Oscar
Goodwin
Mar 12, 1929 — Jul 21, 2021
York - Herbert Oscar Goodwin, son of George and Ruby Goodwin, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 21, 2021.
Herb, our dad, was born in Berlin, NH, on March 12, 1929. He graduated from South Portland, ME, in 1947. After graduating, he joined the Army Air Corp. where he met his lifelong friend, Jim Taylor. It was during a visit to Jim's family in Kittery, ME, where he met Jim's sister and the love of his life, Virginia (Taylor). Herb sent a thank-you note to "Ginny's" mother and Ginny returned a letter to him. From there, Herb and Ginny sent many letters back and forth throughout his time in the service. Herb spent 2 1/2 years in Guam. After this, he spent the last of his enlistment in Washington, DC; and upon returning, Herb and Ginny were engaged for 6 months before getting married in a double ceremony at the First Baptist Church in Kittery Point, ME, on November 18, 1950. They spent 3 years in Boston, MA, eating chocolates, reading to each other and enjoying their newly married life, as Herb Attended Coyne Electrical School in Boston. From there, he joined Bell Atlantic as an Equipment Installer, eventually working his way up to ESS Foreman, handling many offices. After his retirement, he took a part-time job working at Coat World, where his co-workers lovingly named him "Mr. World".
Herb and Ginny were blessed with nearly 71 years together, doing everything as a devoted couple, side by side, raising their family, attending church, skiing, camping and simply sharing a lifetime of love, laughter, family and friends.
Herb had many passions in life. He was a talented artist and loved skiing, camping, woodworking, golf, target practicing, reading, doing crossword puzzles with his grandchildren, and watching the Patriots win again and again.
Herb is survived by his loving, devoted wife and their four children and families: Dave And Pauline Goodwin, Bruce and Donna Goodwin, John and Lisa Gilmer and Paul and Jeannie Hogan. Herb was so proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved spending time with them, laughing, joking, reminiscing and simply being in their presence.
His precious grandchildren are Ben Goodwin, Tawni Hansen (husband Ryan), Kaylee Agostinelli (husband Kenny), Henrik Goodwin, Allison Grimaldi (husband Chris), Stephanie Goodwin, Danielle Ford (husband Brandon), Matt Goodwin, Ava Stevenson, Carsen Goodwin, Andrew Goodwin and Seth Goodwin. Great grandchildren are Claire, Caleb, Tucker, Isaac Hansen and Cayden Ford, who is arriving in October.
Herb touched many lives throughout his lifetime and he will be forever loved and missed by all who were blessed to know him, especially his brother-in-law Don Taylor, special friend Lee Shea, and many loving nieces and nephews, too many to list.
