Obituary

Kittery Maine-Hollis K Tapley, 86 a long time resident of Oak Terrace in Kittery died on March 28, 2016 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital following a period of failing health.

Born in Bluehill Maine on October 1, 1929 Hollis was a son of Henry and Harriet (Pevear) Tapley. He attended schools in the Bluehill area until his senior year when he and his family moved and made their home in Kittery attending R. W. Traip Academy graduating with the class of 1947. Following high school Hollis entered in and served his country as a member of the Army Air Corps.

Following his discharge from the Air Corps he worked at the Portsmouth Naval shipyard as a loftsman until 1969. He then became a plant operator for the town of Kittery wastewater treatment plant retiring in 1979.

Hollis and his wife Barbara M (Chase) Tapley made their home and raised a family on Oak Terrace in Kittery. They were both active members of the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Kittery. He enjoyed his many nights of playing cards with his friends, watching the Sunday ball game and enjoying making Sunday meals for family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife Barbara of Kittery, sons Brian Tapley wife Wendy Tapley Cape Neddick, ME, Russell Sponsler Portland, ME, James Sponsler and wife Ginger Sponsler Orlando FL, daughters Cynthia Fielders and husband Michael Fielders Eliot ME, Brenda Benson Newmarket NH. Siblings Philip Tapley Eliot ME, Rebecca Bethune Lubbock TX, . Deceased siblings; Jeannette Phillips Joyce Chase, George Tapley and Regina Bonsey. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

Friends are invited to visit with Hollis's family on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 5 to 7 PM in the JS Pelkey funeral home 125 Old Post Rd. Kittery ME 03904. A funeral will be celebrated at his church St. Mark's United Methodist Church on Government Street in Kittery on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 1pm with Pastor William Humphry officiating.
