Obituary

Eliot-Iola May "Woodie" Barr, of Eliot, ME, passed away January 14, 2016, one week after celebrating her 93rd birthday.

Woodie was born January 7th, 1923 in Portland, ME to Jennie (Monahan) Woodman and William Woodman. She grew up in Haverhill, MA and served in the WAVES (U.S. Navy) during World War II. She worked at Kimballs, in Portsmouth, for many years, followed by 25 years of service at Philbrook Dining Hall at the University of New Hampshire, where she enjoyed interactions with students and fellow employees and recieved the Presidential Award of Excellence. Woodie is predeceased by her parents, her brother Charles, and sisters Dorothy and Pauline. She is survived by her beloved sons Thomas and Ralph, daughter-in-law Linda, grandchildren Joanna and Benjamin, grandson-in-law Ryan, great-grandchildren Griffin and Cecilia, grand-dog Rusty, nephew Michael Ricci, and close friend Lisa Hamcha.

Thanks to Dr. Mark Graziano and Dr. Timothy Kingsbury for years of superb care, and Durgin Pines and York Hospital for recent assistance.

Friends are invited to visit with her family on Wednesday from 11 am to 1 pm in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904. A funeral will be celebrated at 1pm in the funeral home with the Rev Brad Hirst officiating. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com . In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Childrens Hospital. Care for the Barr family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
