Obituary

Kittery-Ione Elisabeth Denny (Deedie) of Kittery, Maine passed away September 18th in York, Maine. She was 86. Born 1/15/1929 to William Murdock Denny and Beth Lundy Denny of Crockett, Texas, Deedie was raised in Schenectady, New York where she lived until graduating from Nott Terrace high school in 1946. She went on to graduate from Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire and Boston University. After her children were grown, Deedie earned a Masters Degree in education and worked in the Warner, NH school district forming district-wide reading programs for gifted students. Deedie's life took her to many places as she raised her family. Columbus, Ohio; Cape Cod, MA; New London, NH; Lake George, NY, and finally, Kittery, Maine, a place she deeply loved. She bestowed her home in Kittery with the name "Sea Cliff" and it became the gathering place for all her children, grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. Deedie deeply loved life and her six children with all her heart. She was also one of the warmest, smartest, and funniest people you'd ever meet. She loved watching the Pats and the Buckeyes on TV, and attending the many sporting events that her children and grandchildren participated in. Even well into her 70s, she'd drive by herself across three New England states in snowstorms to visit those she loved and not think twice about it. She was a dedicated mother and teacher and an avid sailor, gardener, watercolor painter, pianist, family genealogist, and antique collector. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, and past member of the Beta Sigma Sorority at Nott Terrace, the Leatherlips Yacht Club, and the Columbus Junior League. But what made her most proud were her six children: Carl Denny Cooperrider, Stuart Lundy Cooperrider, David Colin Cooperrider, Seth McPhail Cooperrider, Kathryn MacIntosh Johnston, and Sarah McClure Camp, who all survive her. She is also survived by the wonderful nieces of her deceased brother William Murdock Denny Jr. (Buz), along with 16 grandchildren and great-grandchildren across the world. Ione, Deedie, Grandeedie, Mom. She lived an amazing life and will be greatly missed.
