Obituary

Kittery-Irene (Renie) Ellen Cejka, of Kittery, Maine, passed away after battling lung cancer on June 20, 2015 in her home, surrounded by her family. She was born March 2, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Teresa and Leo Oneil. Irene is preceded in death by her sisters Nancy and Terry, and her brother Donny. Irene is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert James Cejka, her daughter Terri (Matt), her son Robert Jr (Lisa), her son Scott, her brothers Leo and Steven, her sister Joyce, and her dear cousin Sherry; Grandchildren Lindsay, James, and Ludmilla, numerous nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as her dear friends Lucielle and Pauline. After meeting the love of her life in late 1960, and marrying a year and a half later, Renie became the wife of a young sailor from Schenectady, NY. She traveled with her husband to Naval bases from Cuba to Maine, raising three children along the way. When her husband retired in 1976 after 20 years of service in the US Navy, they bought a house in Kittery, Maine where she lived until her passing. Renie worked 25 years at Burger King in Portsmouth, NH, making countless friends over the years, both coworkers and customers. One of her greatest joys was that of being a Grandmother. She adored the role, and was the epitome of a kind, loving, protective Nana. In her later years, many simply referred to her as "Nana", as the name truly fit her. Irene was a devout Catholic, a loving wife, mother, and friend. She was also selfless. Her concern was always for the well-being of others over herself, and she and her husband actively gave to several charities and were available to help others in times of need over the years. Her giving spirit will be missed, but it has also been passed on to the many she touched with her love and kindness. Friends are invited to visit Irene's family on Wednesday, June 24, 6p-8p, in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery, Maine 03904.
