James L.
Veino Jr.
Mar 31, 1935 — Dec 24, 2025
With great sadness we announce that James L Veino Jr age 90 passed away Dec 24, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Dad was born in Portsmouth NH on March 31st, 1935, the son of James Leo Veino Sr and Mary (Bukata) Veino. He attended and graduated from Portsmouth High (class of 1953). He served in the US Navy and honorably discharged. He worked for Public Service company at the Schiller power station for many years before retiring. Following retirement, he worked at the Kittery Puffin stop and part time at the Ledges country club.
He and mom (Janet) were married on July 4th, 1959, and shared 60 wonderful years together.
They spent many years travelling south as "snowbirds" to Cocoa Beach where they made many lasting friendships. Each year they looked forward to spending 3 months in the warm weather enjoying great food and company. Dad enjoyed getting out and playing golf 2-3 times a week with the gang from Cocoa Beach club where they stayed. They enjoyed traveling the coast of Maine and trip to Hawaii and were especially fond of Boothbay harbor.
He was predeceased by his parents James and Mary; as well as his his loving wife Janet (2019).
Dad is survived by his sons; James Veino III (wife Diane), Robert Veino (wife Ann) and Jeffrey Veino; Grandchildren: Brianne (daughter of Bob & Ann), James IV (wife Dana), Jonathan, Daniel (fiancé Lyndsay) (sons of Jim and Diane); Great grandchildren, Kynen (son of Brianne) and Jonathan Jr (son of Jonathan).
Dad loved playing golf whenever he could. Achieving a hole in one at Pease golf club. He was still playing at 90 and always hit the ball straight down the middle (something we all wished we could do)! For many years he and his 3 sons would make the early spring trek to Cape Cod for a weekend of golf and playing cribbage. Having too much fun once led to dad falling into the bushes on the way back from the local watering hole. We were all laughing so hard we could hardly help him up!
We enjoyed spending 2 weeks each summer as we grew up at Pine River Pond. Road trip to Disney World was an adventure with 3 young boys in the back seat. Frequent family gatherings at our parents' house were always fun. Family has always been the most important thing in all our lives. Each winter Dad and Mom escaped to Cocoa Beach, we would always follow them for a week or two to enjoy time with them playing cribbage and phase 10 (mom would always skip dad, even when he was in last place)! After Mom passed we still took trips to Florida with him to play golf and have fun. He especially enjoyed the past several winters spent with Jeffrey in Florida at his house.
Dad is someone we all looked up to. He always had time to listen and help you. We all miss him so much.
Love you Dad.
