SOMERSWORTH ---Jean J. Gagnon, 96, of Somersworth,
died Wednesday, June 14 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital following a period of failing health.
Born in Manchester on June 3, 1921, she was the daughter of Frank and Katazyna (Ludwin) Smas. She was
predeceased by her loving husband of 31 years, Alphie, and son, Richard.
She is survived by her son, Frank, and his wife, Claudette, of Chesapeake, VA. Also left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law, Suzanne Gagnon; grandchildren, Dr. Donna Gagnon and her husband, Russell Torrisi, of
Virginia Beach, VA; Cindy Dusseault and her husband, Donald, of Rochester; Bryan Gagnon and his wife, Christie, of Dover; Stephen-Gagnon -of Carrollton, VA; Michael Gagnon and Marcey LaFleur, Esq. of Somersworth and Lisa Byatt and her husband, John, of Amherst; great- grandchildren Craig, Amanda, Chad, Brandi, Hannah, Gabrielle, Thea, Hunter, Paul and Lauren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
She was also predeceased by her siblings, Stephen, Adolph, Katherine (Kleczek), Adele (Marrocco), Frank and Henry. She was a strong and independent lady and a devoted mother and 'Grammie' to her loving family. She had a kind and generous heart and gave graciously of her time to help others. She had a sharp sense of humor and loved to laugh.
She spent her working years employed as a factory worker in area shoe shops and GE. She enjoyed eating out with the Red Hatters, the GE retirees, and friends and family. She loved going to the family camp on Lake Winnipesaukee, which was built by her and her husband and sons in 1959. She was a longtime, faithful parishioner of St. Martin Catholic Church.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at 10am, at St. Martin Church of St Ignatius of Loyola Parish, 120 Maple Street, Somersworth.. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a memorial donation in her name to St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church (St. Martin), 120 Maple st., Somersworth, NH 03878.
