Jeannette C.
Chevalier
May 10, 1930 — Sep 21, 2024
Somersworth, NH: Jeannette C. Chevalier, 94 of Somersworth, New Hampshire died September 21, 2024, at her home after a brief illness. Jeannette was one of seven children born May 10, 1930, to Alfred and Alice (Ouellette) Lavoie. Jeannette was a lifelong resident of Somersworth.
Jeannette met Raoul Chevalier while they were both employed at Chabot's Dairy in Somersworth. They married April 19, 1952, when Raoul was on leave while serving in the military in the Korean War. Upon Raoul's return home, the two started their family and settled in Somersworth in the house Raoul built, where they went on to raise their five children. Jeannette and Raoul had a true love affair. In their last remaining years together, Jeannette unselfishly provided around-the-clock care to Raoul until he succumbed to Parkinson's Disease.
Jeannette's family was her pride and joy. She was very involved in her children and grandchildren's various interests, including church, sports and music events, Girl Scouts and other school activities. She was a devout Catholic partaking in parish life and volunteering in breakfasts, penny sales, church fairs and other activities. Jeannette acted as secretary and handled the financial affairs of her husband's electrical business for nearly 50 years.
Jeannette and Raoul enjoyed their annual road trips to Florida and Georgia to visit with their son, Norman, and his family. They took part in a few bus trips to places like Myrtle Beach and Tennessee and a week's long vacation to Aruba for their 35th wedding anniversary, a trip they won in a lottery. They enjoyed watching the Red Sox for many years, including attending a couple games at Fenway Park with their children. The two enjoyed socializing with friends, dancing, music, playing cards and eating out. She enjoyed sewing, reading and making jigsaw puzzles, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with family.
Jeannette is survived by her five children: Elaine Chevalier of Barrington, New Hampshire, Claire Kelley of Springvale, Maine, Denise Couture and her husband Robert of Somersworth, Diane Wallingford and her husband Randy of Barrington, and Norman Chevalier and his wife Kaisy of Kingsland, Georgia. She is also survived by her grandchildren Eric Kelley, Kristen (Couture) Cottreau, Kendall Couture, Justin and Scott Wallingford, and Adam and Aimee Chevalier. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren Ryan Kelley II, Tyler Cottreau, Addison, Cameron, Owen Wallingford, and Matthew Bourassa. She is also survived by her sister, Simone Dupuis.
Raoul Chevalier, her husband of 67 years, predeceased her in 2019, as well as her grandson, Ryan Kelley in 2013. Other family members who went before her are her parents and her siblings, Fernand, Gerard and Roger Lavoie, Yvette Bosse and Lucille Richard, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish St. Martin Church, 120 Maple Street, Somersworth, NH at 10a, Friday, September 27, 2024. Rev. Andrew Nelson officiant. We are forever grateful for the exceptional nursing care that Jeannette's daughter, Diane, provided during her last illness.
