Obituary

Jerry F. Allen, 76, died unexpectedly at his home in York, Maine March 20, 2024.

Born May 6, 1947, in Springfield MA, Mr. Allen grew up in Enfield CT and Wallingford VT. He traveled frequently throughout his life due to his military career but settled in Eliot ME after retirement. He then moved to York ME where he lived for over 20 years.

Mr. Allen was a proud member of the United States Air Force for 23 years where he served as a machinist and analyst with Strategic Air Command. A proud patriot, he sacrificed for our country in Vietnam earning the Vietnam Service Medal with five OLC. Throughout his military career, he was awarded multiple additional medals including the Meritorius Service Medal with one OLC, the Air Force Commendation Medal with four OLC, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device.

After his retirement, Mr. Allen continued to serve his country through the American Legion Post 56 where he was the Finance Officer, Sergeant at Arms and chair of the Fundraising Committee.  In addition, he served his local community as a member of the York Budget Committee and a member of the Masons for 42 years. He also donated his time to volunteer and advocate for the elderly, spending many hours taking them to appointments or shopping.

Mr. Allen was predeceased by his first wife Betty Ann Allen, his sister Sandra Fleming, and his parents Ralph and Priscilla Allen.

He is survived by his loving wife Carole Allen; his son Kenneth Allen, wife Lisa Allen and their daughters Fiona Allen and Kahlan Keene; his son James Allen, wife Amy Allen and their sons Oscar Allen, Oliver Allen and Justin (Jason) Wright; his son Wayne Allen, wife Erin Allen and their sons Aiden Allen and Bryce Allen; his stepson Rick South and his sons Matthew and William South; his sister Kim Dickson and family; and many other friends and family, far and wide.

A private service will be held at the VA Cemetery in Augusta Maine with full military honors. In lieu of a public service or flowers, we ask that friends donate to: American Legion Post 56, 647 U.S. Route 1, Suite #6, York, Maine 03909-1651, 207-363-0376. Care for the Allen family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey & Son Funeral Hoome.
