Somersworth- Joan L. Fournier, 81 of Somersworth and York Beach died on February 5, 2015 at Bellamy Fields in Dover, her home for the past two years while living with Alzheimer's Disease. The daughter of Norman and Lillian (Renaud) Fournier, Joan was raised in Somersworth and attended local schools including St. Martin Academy and Somersworth High School where she graduated with the class of 1951. Joan made a career with New England Telephone Company, starting at the local office on Main Street in Somersworth and retiring after thirty four years of service as the business office manager in Laconia. She was active with the Telephone Pioneers of America. Family was important to Joan, each weekend for many years she would join family and friends at their summer home on Milton Three Ponds, where many wonderful memories were made. For several years, Joan also wintered in Daytona Beach, Florida. Later in life, she found joy in living at York Beach, where the doors of her beach home were always open to those she loved. She was an active member of the community serving as a volunteer at the York Community Thrift Shop for more than twenty five years. She was an avid walker and took daily walks, stopping to chat with familiar faces along the shoreline. She enjoyed cooking and baking family favorites like banana bread and whoopie pies. She also liked to play cards and games with friends. Joan will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her, especially her sister Priscilla Boyle of Somersworth, niece Joni and her husband Bill Ferland of Somersworth and their daughters Tori and Haley who were like grandchildren to her. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Bellamy Fields, who greeted Joan with a hello or hug on every corner she turned while walking the loop each day. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday February 16, 2015 at 11am in her church, St. Martin's Catholic Church on Maple Street in Somersworth with a burial to follow in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to Somersworth Girls Basketball Boosters c/o Somersworth High School at 11 Memorial Drive, for a fund in honor of Joan's love for the sport, intended to assist with player fees for those who may have a need. Care for the Fournier family has been entrusted to the Bernier Funeral home.
