York-Joan Hood, 73, of York, Maine, passed away on November 17, 2015 after a long illness.
Born December 31, 1941, Joan was the oldest child of John and Ann (McLaughlin) Concannon. She and her three brothers were raised in West Roxbury, MA, where Joan graduated from Cathedral High School. After graduating, Joan went on to work for the Boston Edison Company and then the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) for the Archdiocese of Boston. In 1971, she welcomed her son Peter into the world, and began her most treasured vocation as his devoted mother.
In 1977, Joan moved to Cape Neddick, Maine with her father and her son. She worked in a variety of administrative positions until 1985, when she was hired by Valle's Steak House. At Valle's, Joan met her future husband and love of her life, Matt Hood. Joan and Matt were married on November 11, 1989, and recently celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary.
Joan was frequently the life of the party -- she loved to laugh and have a good time with her family and friends. She loved all music, from Patsy Cline to Pavarotti, and was always ready to initiate a sing-a-long at the piano. She took great pride in caring for her home, and especially loved decorating for the holidays. She was a skilled knitter, an enthusiastic baker who made a mean chocolate cake, and a formidable Scrabble opponent. On Sunday mornings, she could be found with a hot cup of black coffee and the Boston Globe crossword puzzle in her hand.
In addition to her loving husband, Matt, Joan is survived by her son, Peter Concannon of Kittery, ME; her three brothers, John Concannon and his wife Anne, of Cape Neddick, Maine; Richard Concannon and his wife Lois, of Dedham, MA; and Stephen Concannon and his wife Marion, of West Roxbury, MA; her close friend Elizabeth Howard and her husband Maurice LaPointe and their children, Margaux and James LaPointe of Storrs, CT; a sister in law Jan Cerebona of Eliot and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brentwood Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Yarmouth, ME for their excellent care during Joan's final weeks of life.
Calling hours will be held at J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery, ME on Saturday, November 28th from 9-10:30 am, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11:30 am at St. Christopher's in York, ME. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan's name to the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure. Care for the Hood family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
