John Allan
Crothers
May 6, 1962 — Jan 7, 2026
John Allan Crothers, 63, of Eliot, Maine, passed away on January 7, 2026, following a brief illness. Born on May 6, 1962, John was a man of steadfast faith whose life was defined by his devotion to Christ, his unwavering love for his family, and his strong sense of humor.
A 1980 graduate of Marshwood High School, John's journey of faith led him to Hesston College in Kansas and later to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. His time at Moody was foundational, equipping him with the scriptural knowledge and spirit of service that became the hallmarks of his life. While John worked in various fields, he was most proud of his years as a teacher at Seacoast Christian School in South Berwick. He is remembered fondly by former students as a mentor who offered not just academic lessons, but wisdom, kindness, and a living example of Christ's love.
A member of The Church at Spruce Creek in Kittery, John aspired daily to be a "good and faithful servant." Even during his final earthly days, his primary concern was that he might be a blessing to others and that God would be glorified through him.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Susan (Davis) Crothers; his mother, Joan Crothers; and his mother-in-law, Rita Davis. He was a devoted father to his three daughters: Leah Clontz and her husband Stephen, Hannah Crothers, and Lydia Kohnle and her husband Matthieu. He was also the proud grandfather of five grandchildren: Samuel, Alina, Barrett, Virginia, and Peter.
He also leaves behind his sisters: Sharon Gann and her husband Ed, Diana Jepson and her husband Charles Jr., Laura Sevil and her husband Sahin, and Jennifer Crothers; his half-sister, Linda Bernard; his brother-in-law, Kent Davis and his wife Deanna; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Marvin Crothers; his father-in-law, Wayne Davis; and his half-brother, Mark Crothers.
His family takes comfort in the promise of the resurrection and the knowledge that he is now in the presence of his Savior. A service celebrating his life and faith will be held at The Church at Spruce Creek on January 24th at 1:00pm.
"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.'" — John 11:25-26
