Major John "Jack" T. Fogarty, USA, Retired, 86, of South Berwick, ME died peacefully at his home surrounded by family Sunday, February 20, 2022.
Born in Boston, MA, on April 27, 1935, he was the son of Thomas and Susan Frances (Thomas) Fogarty.
Jack was a lifelong learner and graduated from Berwick Academy (1953). He went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from the College of the Holy Cross (1957) as well as a Masters Degree from Boston University (1977). His 20-year military career in the US Army included a tour of duty in Vietnam and brought him to many corners of the world. Upon returning to South Berwick after his Army retirement, Jack continued on to many other careers including real estate, tax assessing/code enforcement for the town of South Berwick, contract supervisor for the National Passport Center and as an H&R Block tax preparer.
Jack was a member of VFW Post 5744, Knights of Columbus Council #140 and a communicant of St. Mary Parish in Rollinsford, NH.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and helping to care for his honorary grandson Maxi. He also enjoyed reading books by W.E.B Griffin, watching westerns and cheering on the Patriots and Red Sox.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Heidi, of South Berwick, ME; daughter Sharon, of Boston, MA; son Brian, daughter-in-law Debbie and grandson Andrew, of Greenland, NH. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Daigle, of Durham, NH; brother Daniel and wife Jacki, of Bow, NH; sisters-in-law Loretta Fogarty, of Durham, NH and Ann Fogarty, of Springvale, ME; brother-in-law Horst Belz, of Frankfurt, Germany as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his siblings, David, Timothy and Jane Sharon Fogarty and Mary Frances Baker, brothers-in-law David Baker and Robert Daigle as well as his beloved grandson Thomas Edward Fogarty.
At his request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at St. Mary Parish, 411 Church Street in Rollinsford, NH at 11am on Monday, February 28, 2022. The family will be available at the back of the church from 10-11am for those who wish to express their condolences. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Berwick Fire Department, 71 Norton Street, South Berwick, ME 03908.Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com .
