Obituary

Eliot- John Edward Hippern passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 9, 2016. He was born January 20, 1933 to John and Catherine (Holmes) Hippern. He attended Rindge Tech in Cambridge, MA and enlisted in the United States Air Force after he graduated. John married his love Mary Louise McConnell on November 15, 1958, and together they had five children.

John served for 20 years in the USAF and retired in 1972.  He then went on to work for the Portsmouth Water District for 25 years.

John "Jack" had a deep love for hockey. He coached Dover and Portsmouth Youth Hockey as well as coaching both Portsmouth and Dover High School teams. Whether he was coaching or watching his children and grandchildren play, he was just happy watching a hockey game.

John loved bird watching, traveling to Las Vegas, family filled holidays, and New England Sports. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, and his loyal love and pride for his family.

He is predeceased by his wife Mary, his parents, and his sister Barbara Duggan.

He is survived by his sister Dorothy Hender of Massachusetts, His children: Marjorie Hippern of Dover, NH, John Hippern and his wife Lisa of Kittery, ME, Donna Young and husband Arthur of North Berwick, ME, James Hippern and wife Mary Jean of Dover/Somersworth, NH and Robert Hippern and his wife Terri of Rochester, NH. Eight grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Chris, Joseph and fiancé Kayla, Julie, Samantha, Dakota, Nathan, Brian and Mackenzie, three Great Granddaughters: Delaney, Reilly, and Macey and many nieces and nephews.

Services: Visiting hours will be on Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 5-7pm at Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery, Maine. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 am December 16, 2016 at St. Raphael Church on Whipple Road in Kittery, ME. The family asks in lieu of flowers to make a donation to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
