KITTERY, Maine - John George Penney Jr, 87, of 107 Martin Road, passed away on Friday, November 23, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 13, 1931 in Providence, RI, the son of John G and Marjorie (Higgins) Penney.

He is survived by his three sons, Michael and his wife Tina, of Auburn, ME, Lawrence and his wife Sakiko of Toano, VA, and Don and his wife Sheila of Kittery, ME, where he lived after the death of his wife, Mary, who he was married to for 55 years.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Penney and Julie Brown, Andrew and Angela Penney, and Aleece Penney.  He was predeceased by his grandson, Justin Robinson. He has two great grandchildren, Eddy and Emma, whom he loved spending time with.

John enlisted in the Navy after high school and served in the Korean War on the USS Maddox DD-731 and received an honorable discharge.  He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 31 years.  After his retirement, he and his wife Mary moved to Topsfield, ME to the house he built.  In his retirement, he took up wood carving and won several awards in local and statewide competitions.

Visiting hours are Friday, November 30th, from 5 to 7 pm at Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Make a Wish Foundation.
