John R.
Rix
Apr 15, 1940 — Aug 9, 2023
How do you describe a man like John? He was a fun loving, kind hearted man. He would do just about anything for anyone. He had a wonderful sense a humor and once he got you laughing the jokes would keep coming until your sides hurt from laughing so hard.
John grew up in Greene Maine with his parents and 6 siblings. He did what ever he could to earn a dime, whether it was picking up bottles off the side of the road or picking apples and selling them. At the age of 14 he got a job at an Esso gas station where the owner quickly learned he could do everything so he left him to run the station.
John had many jobs over the year from being a transport driver for USPS to Sheriff to the manager of an auto parts store. There was no job too big or too small as long as it was keeping a roof over his families head and putting food on the table.
After leaving his job with the auto parts store John opened Gold & Things Trading Center in Rochester NH where he quickly earning the respect of the residence and law enforcement alike. He was a great negotiator. Whether it was a pebble or a 10kt diamond ring he could make you think you couldn't live without it.
After 10 years of operating Gold & Things he sold it to Roland Hersey (8 ball) who quickly became his best friend. There isn't anything they wouldn't do for each other. The moto was don't do anything big unless you call John first. Now that John has gone to his home in heaven the saying is WWJRD (What Would John Rix Do)?
He and Laurie moved to FLA November of 1999. John worked on home projects while Laurie went to the office. Once the projects were all completed John went to work at Crest Cadillac, now known as, Sunset Cadillac as a new car lot porter. He was told he had big shoes to fill. They quickly learned that he had no problem filling those shoes. In fact the shoes overflowed with his energy and work ethic.
John has 5 children, Mark Rix (Debi), Matt Rix (Theresa), Ann Emard, Jack Tracy and Jason Tracy (Corey). There are 15 grandchildren, 5 of which preceded/ him, and 18 great grandchildren. Whether blood or not he loved each one of them the same.
John was so proud of all 5 kids. He talked often of taking Mark & Matt to wrestling tournaments throughout New England, camping with his kids when they were young and taking his daughter Ann to Disney when she was a kid. Jack and Jason came into his life later when he and Laurie started to date. He would play with them, teach them and love them as if they were his own.
He will be missed dearly by family and friends alike. There is and never will be anyone like him. God's speed. See you on the other side.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to in lieu of flowers that people donate to St Jude, https://www.stjude.org, or Moffitt Cancer Research Center, https://give.moffitt.org .
