Obituary

Portsmouth - John "Jack" S. True passed away after a long illness on March 26, 2022.  He was born in York, Maine, on August 28, 1943.  During his life Jack wore many hats, but first and foremost was his deep love for the sea.  He enjoyed fishing and catching lobster on his sailboat.  He was first certified diver for the State of New Hampshire and was later employed as a Boat Pilot for the City of Boston.  His longtime home even allowed for a view of the cove where he could sit in his living room and enjoy the various boats that would go by the windows.

Jack was last employed as bridge operator for the Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  He was one of the last operators employed to raise the bridge before it was reconstructed in 2013.

Jack enjoyed hunting, baseball and football.  He was a man of many trades.   He was a lifetime Mason a current member of Navel Lodge #184 in Kittery, Maine.  He was a jokester and would help anyone even if he did not know you.

He leaves behind his longtime partner and caregiver, Dorothy "Dot" Sprague and his loving cat Bosun.
