John “Jack”
Thayer Clifford
Dec 19, 1949 — Jun 2, 2025
John "Jack" Thayer Clifford, age 75, of Kittery, ME, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jack was born on December 19, 1949, in Portland, ME, to Edwin T. Clifford and Dorothy V. Cole. He graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and History. He had a long career in construction and engineering with Ocean Properties, most notably with the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel.
Jack married Deb (Simpson) in 1990 and together they raised two wonderful children, Jillian and Matthew. Jack was a very dedicated husband and father, never missing a sporting event or an opportunity to play ball in the backyard. He always looked forward to Friday night dates with his wife.
He is survived by his sisters, Sharon Paolucci and Dot Rich, wife Deb, children Jillian and Matthew, daughter-in-law Sasha Antequera-Ordonez, and grandson Malcolm. He is predeceased by his sister, Gail Smith, and brother, Edwin Clifford.
Jack will be remembered by his nickname, MacGyver, for his ability to fix anything with a shim and duct tape, along with his relentless dedication to the maintenance of his beloved pool. Though nothing made him happier than his children and grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank the staff at York Hospital and York Oncology for their excellent care of Jack.
