Joseph D'Agostino passed away peacefully Saturday, January 20, 2018 at York Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Paterson, NJ on December 3, 1950, he graduated from William Paterson College in 1972 with a degree in History. He devoted his career to sales and marketing, doing everything from copywriting to managing ad campaigns and selling commercial printing. After nearly 25 years at Artco, Inc. in Boston, Joe retired in 2012 and moved with his wife to York, Maine. An antiques aficionado, watch guru and life-long coin collector he found part-time work that drew on his passions, selling watches at Movado and coins at Port City Coin and Jewelry, using his vast knowledge to catalog rare coins and inspire others to collect.
Joe fell in love with coins as a boy after his grandmother gave him his first coin. Decades later his eyes would still light up at the sight of a long-sought-after buffalo nickel. His family will treasure the memory of him sitting at his big oak desk, magnifying glass to his eye, admiring his latest find.
Joe will be remembered for his gentle nature and loving heart. He had a gift for connecting with people, drawing many to him with his compassion and sense of humor. A tribute to his Italian heritage, Joe's Eggplant Parmesan was legendary among family and friends.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife Harriet Wiggin of York, Maine; his mother Elizabeth and stepfather Joseph Bucher of Hawthorne, NJ; daughter Kristin D'Agostino of Burlington, Vermont; daughter Bethany and son-in-law Joseph McCarthy of Manchester, NH; his sister Jean Norton of Lawrenceville, Georgia and her partner Michael Fogle; brother Ralph D'Agostino of Hawthorne, NJ; step-brother Joseph Bucher and wife Barbara of Wayne, New Jersey and many other beloved relatives and friends.
Services: Funeral services will be held at J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Rd., Kittery, Maine, on January 25, at 10am, followed immediately by a luncheon.
