Kittery, Maine - Joseph Edward Levesque, Jr., 81 of Williams Avenue in Kittery passed away peacefully on February 23 after a period of declining health. Born on December 25, 1934 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Doris (Jarvis) and Joseph Levesque Sr. He was the oldest of four children. Joseph served his country in the United States Air Force for over twenty years in the fire service, retiring from military service as an Assistant Fire Chief, continuing in that capacity as a civil servant at the Pease Air Force Base Fire Department. He also served as a toll attendant at the Hampton Toll Booth and as a Bridge Tender on the Sarah Long Bridge. Joe was an avid sports enthusiast, playing on a baseball league in France while stationed there in the 1960s, and continuing his passion coaching Little League while stationed at Pease Air Force Base. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, and cooking a good meal. He was known for being a talented photographer and often had a great joke to share with others. Joe had quite a passion for making beautiful Christmas ornaments to share with his family and friends. He also enjoyed music and dancing with the love of his life, his wife Catherine. In addition, Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as the American Legion and served the community delivering Meals on Wheels. Joseph is survived by his loving family, best friend and bride of over 62 years Catherine (Mooney) Levesque of Kittery, a son Rene Levesque of Gilmanton New Hampshire, daughter JoAnn and her husband Paul Roberts of Kittery Point Maine, daughter Nicole and her husband Paul Labrecque of Barrington New Hampshire, and daughter-in-law Glenda Sharp and a son-in-law James Matotte, grandchildren whom he adored Rhonda and her husband Todd Beaver and their children Tyler and Haley, Joseph and his wife Shanna Levesque and their children Chelsea and James, Michael and his wife Alyson Roberts and their son Maxwell, Jessica and her husband Darren Gerhardt and their son Caelen, Ethan Matotte, Katherine Matotte, and Wyatt Labrecque, brothers Gerard and Rene Levesque, several nieces and nephews, and best buddy Skip Emery, who was like a brother to him. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Marlene Doyle. Joe was a friend to all and will be greatly missed. Friends may visit with Joseph's family on Tuesday from 5-7 at JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, 11am with Fr Scott Mower as celebrant in St Raphaels Church on Whipple Road in Kittery, where a time of refreshment and sharing will follow.
