Obituary

Karen Ellen Slaugenhoup (Jankauskas), aged 60, passed peacefully on 18 April, 2018 at her home in Kittery ME from cancer.  Karen was born November 24, 1957 in Nashua, NH, the daughter of Joseph J. and Alice G. Jankauskas.

Karen devoted her life to her family.  She adored the Christmas season and making all holidays warm and special. Karen will be fondly remembered as a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She was happiest nurturing and watching her children and grandchildren grow.  Karen taught all of us to put others before ourselves.

Karen attended St. John the Evangelist School in Hudson, NH and graduated from Winnacunnet High School, Hampton NH, class of 1975, after her family moved to Hampton Beach.  She worked as a typing pool supervisor at the House of White Birches publishing of Seabrook NH and worked for Consumer Profiles Inc. of Dover NH.  She volunteered at Horace Mitchell School in Kittery, and dedicated time to support the various educational, athletic, theater and music programs that her children were involved in.  Her favorite role was that of homemaker.

On June 14, 1980, Karen married the love of her life, Ray Slaugenhoup.  After living in various locations when Ray was employed as a field engineer for General Electric, they settled in Kittery, ME near Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where Ray is employed as an engineer.  Karen was Ray's best friend, and they enjoyed 37 years of marriage.

Karen is predeceased by her father and mother, Joseph and Alice Jankauskas.

Karen is survived by her husband, Ray, her son, Robert Slaugenhoup and his partner Matthew Bennett, her daughter, Abbey LaRose, her partner Benjamin Chase, her grandsons, Jared and Charlie LaRose, her brother, Steven Jankauskas and his wife, Linda, her brother, Jason Jankauskas and his wife Lisa, her sister, Susan Warren, three nephews, eight nieces, and a many other beloved relatives and friends.

Per Karen's request, there will be no formal funeral services.  In lieu of flowers or donations, please spend quality time with your children or grandchildren, spend time with a relaxing hobby, perform an act of kindness.  Karen would have loved that.

Care of the Slaugenhoup family has been entrusted to J S Pelkey Funeral Home.
