Obituary

Kittery-Karol C. Gooch passed away at home  on June 1,2020  attended by her husband David and their children and grand children.
Karol Flora MacGregor Cranford Gooch was born in Brooklyn NY on May 4, 1948, the oldest daughter of Duncan Cranford and Erna"Karen" Satfield. Karol grew up in Kings Park Long Island NY and after High school she attended Emerson College in Boston MA. She left college in 1968 to get married, two years later she was divorced but "kept" her in-laws, remaining very close to her sister-in-law Vicky Siragusa, Vicky's husband Tony, and their family, including Karol's god-son Anthony. Karol returned to Emerson and graduated in 1975. She met her husband David in 1974 while back at Emerson College and they were married in 1975 at the First Congregational Church in Kittery Point, ME.
Karol briefly ran a house party plant business "Get Potted and Crocked", was a certified scuba diver, and enjoyed sailing with her family. She was active in Scottish heritage activities serving as a Convenor of the St Andrew's Society of NH, chairing the St Andrew's Scholarship Committee, and running the children's program at the New Hampshire Highland Games (and Festival) from 1991-2000. Karol  organized  the Seacoast Robert Burns Night's for 25 years.
Karol and Dave have two children, Heather and Duncan, and have been blessed to have their families close by for the last several years. They share a love of history and travel.  Karol had traveled to Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii,  and Africa in her teens. After her marriage to Dave they traveled extensively together and with the children;  including Europe, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, up the Nile,  and on safari in Africa. The went ballooning or diving when they could. Karol picked up a lot of hobbies over the years, she loved sewing, she collected dolls, did basket making, pottery, and stenciling.
The couple got involved in many volunteer activities, giving volunteer travel programs at retirement homes, doing Meals on Wheels, volunteering for Kittery Holiday Baskets, and active member of" Senior Moments "offering shows and performing all over the Seacoast area as well as using her talents to make and donate many doll outfits ,other sewing projects and embroidery crafts to her church and the dresses for Africa project and  most recently with the End 68 Hours of Hunger Kittery Program, where Karol was one of the original Packing Team leaders until cancer treatments forced a "retirement".
Karol is pre-deceased by her parents, her half -brother William Schwartz, and her sister, Heather Adele Cranford.
Besides her husband, Karol is survived by her daughter Heather G. McDonald, Heather's  husband Jason McDonald, and her grandson Hayden, and by her son Duncan Gooch, his wife Christina, and her granddaughters Breanna and Isabella.
A celebration of Karol's life will be held at the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home in Kittery when quarantine restrictions allow, online condolences may be made by visiting www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com ..  Memorial donations can be made to End 68 Hours of Hunger, Kittery Program, of which Karol was one of the initial volunteer leaders, and sent c/o Dave Gooch, Treasurer, at 276 Haley Road, Kittery ME 03904
