York, ME - Larry Blethen passed away at York Hospital on Feb. 14, 2022 after a long illness.  Born in York, Maine he was the son of Agnes Bartlett Blethen and George Ryle Blethen.

A graduate of Traip Academy in 1961, he also attended the University of Southern Maine where he received a B.S. in Industrial Technology in 1991 and later an MBA from New Hampshire College in 1992. He also received a Master Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University in 2004. Larry worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Department of Defense for a total of 43 years and was proud of his service.

He is survived by his son Brandon Blethen and wife Whitney of Kittery, Maine, stepdaughter Debra Fredette of Kittery, Maine and son John Dorizzi and wife Joan of Sharon, MA.  Siblings include Claire Smothers of Kittery and Diane Sewell of York, ME.  He was predeceased by his wife Carole Blethen and step-children Sharon Raymond of Lee, NH and Christopher Tobey of Kittery, ME. He is also survived by many beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends

Larry was married to Carole for 46 years.  Together they enjoyed traveling the world and hosting countless parties and weddings at their home in Kittery for friends and family. A passionate sports fan, Larry was happiest when watching the Patriots with his son and playing softball for the Portsmouth old-timers league for many years. An avid collector, he also enjoyed building a lifelong collection of coins, and baseball cards.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Footprints Food Pantry in Kittery or Meals on Wheels of York County.  Care of the Blethen family has been entrusted to the J S Pelkey and Son Funeral Home.
