Obituary

Letty (Jurek) Mills, a beloved mother, grandmother, partner, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 12, 1953, in Newburyport, MA, to the late Adam and Wanda (Adamowicz) Jurek.

A graduate of Newburyport High School, class of 1971, Letty pursued her passion for nursing at Lynn Hospital School of Nursing, earning her Nursing Diploma. She later continued her education at New England College, graduating with a B.S. in Psychology/Sociology. Letty's nursing career began at Anna Jaques Hospital, where she rose to the position of PACU Director. She continued her career at Beverly Hospital and Exeter Hospital before retiring to care for her elderly mother.

Letty's commitment to nursing was more than a profession; it was her calling. She dedicated her life to caring for others, embodying selflessness and compassion. Her kindness and dedication left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.

Outside of her professional life, Letty enjoyed a rich and fulfilling personal life. She loved taking long rides to enjoy the peacefulness of nature, with Lake Chocorua in Tamworth, NH being a favorite spot for a quick swim. Letty was also an avid baker and cook, known for her Strawberry Shortcake and Red Velvet Cake. Her passion for gardening reflected the same love and care she showed her family and friends. In her later years, she cherished living in her dream home by the water, swimming daily, caring for birds, and feeding the neighbor's animals.

Letty's family was the center of her world. She was a devoted partner, mother, Babcia, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a special mother to her two daughters, always their biggest cheerleader, counselor, teacher, on-call babysitter, friend, critic, and confidant.

Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. Every day, she asked, "How are my babies?" and took immense pride in their achievements, delighting in their shared mischief. Letty also had a strong bond with her nieces and nephews, loving them as her own.

Letty is survived by her loving partner of 30+ years, George Tarr; her daughters, Melissa (Mills) Bedard and husband Mark of Stratham NH, and Michelle (Mills) Faria and her partner Andy Russo of Exeter NH; her cherished grandchildren, Evan and Emelyn Bedard, Zoey and Max Faria, and bonus grandchildren Sophie and Penelope Russo. She is also survived by her brother, Ronnie Jurek, and his wife Judy, along with many nieces, nephews, and their children, and her lifelong friend, Gail (Scarborough) Wayne. Letty was predeceased by her sisters, June Greenleaf-Agapow and Lorna Kneeland.

Letty's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched.
