Obituary

Somersworth - Lillian F. Roberge, of 7 Lemelin Court in Somersworth, NH, passed away on July 9th, 2015 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital. Born on January 31, 1914 in Lisbon Maine, she was the daughter of the late Adelard and Eva Couture Deschenes. She moved to Somersworth in 1926 and attended Saint Martin Academy and Somersworth High School graduating in the Class of 1932. In June of 1941, she married Verne Roberge of Somersworth at the original Saint Martin Church on Franklin Street. In her early years, she waitressed at Corbin-Edgar Restaurant in Wells Me, was VP of National Woodworking of Kennebunk ME which was owned by her husband, and later worked a various local shoe shops. In her early retirement she spent winters in Sarasota Florida until her husband passed away in 1980. She was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish, and in the past served as a Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council Member, taught Religious Education, Co-founded the annual Christmas Fair, belonged to the Ladies Guild, and worked at the monthly church breakfasts. Lillian was known for her community involvement which included Strafford County Home Extension in the 50's, Chairman of the annual March of Dimes Mothers' March as well as being on the Executive Board of the NH March of Dimes, Advisory Board for the Foster Grandparent Program, Somersworth International Children's Festival Board Member, Somersworth Winterfest Committee, Somersworth Red Cross Blood Drive Chairman, Volunteer and Board Member of the Community Food Pantry, volunteer at both Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and Riverside Rest Home and Selectwoman for Ward 4. She was a Charter Member of the Hilltop Lioness Club, and received many honors including Lioness of the year for 1984-85 and District 44H Top Secretary in 84-85. She was a Charter Member of the Hilltop Lions Club, and was named Lion of the Year for 92-93 and again in 97-98. She was an Associate Director for Camp Pride and put in many hours at their Bingo fund-raisers. Those activities earned her the honor of being the recipient of the Somersworth Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghans. At one time she was very involved in making rosaries and selling religious items and also made wedding and anniversary cakes. She helped organize the Red Hat Belles in Somersworth in 2004, and was their Vice Queen Mother. She was predeceased by her husband Verne in 1980, her parents, her sisters Sr. St. Jean Francois, Vivianne and Grace, and her brother Raymond. She is survived by her sister Lucille Cater of Somersworth, her seven children: Paul and Sheila Roberge of Exeter, David and Mary Ann Roberge of Somersworth, Roland Roberge and Patricia Fishstein of San Diego, Vivian and Raymond Gosselin of Saco Maine, Regina and Bill Sherman of Somersworth, Guy and Maggie Roberge of Sunnyvale California and Ken and Mimi Roberge of San Jose California. In addition she is survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours for Lillian will be held Thursday July 16, 2015 from 5-8 pm in the Bernier Funeral Home 49 South Street Somersworth NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Parish in Saint Martin Church at 11 AM on July 17 th. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Donations in her honor may be made to the Community Food Pantry c/o First Parish Church, West High Street in Somersworth, or to St Ignatius of Loyola Parish's Capital Improvement Fund at 404 High Street in Somersworth. Care for the Roberge family has been entrusted to the Bernier Funeral Home.
