Linda Bassett, 87, died Saturday, November 20 at Durgin Pines nursing home in Kittery, Maine.  Ms. Bassett was born Linda Lee Williams in Marion, Indiana, on March 7, 1934, to Mary Emily and Robert H. Williams.

Linda graduated from Noblesville High School, attended Purdue University and was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority.

She did clerical work in New York City before traveling through Norway, Italy and Germany.  In 1959 she married James Bassett at the Cadets Chapel at Kings Point Academy in NY.

After living in Pensacola, Fla she moved to Stamford, CT and gave birth to daughter Jennifer and son Paul.

She and her family lived in Providence, RI before moving to the Moosehead Lake region of Maine in 1972.  In addition to being a homemaker Linda volunteered with the Methodist Church, Meals for Me and the local newspaper.

Linda later moved to Portsmouth to be closer to  her children.  One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandson, Andrew, son to Paul and daughter-in-law Sally.  She loved showing him her flower garden, and sharing snacks on the front porch.

Linda also volunteered in the gardens at Strawberry Banke, and loved art, reading and nature walks.  She is survived by her 2 children, grandson, her sister Sara, 3 nieces, 3 nephews, their children, and James Bassett.

A memorial visitation will be held at J.S. Pelkey & Son Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine, on Friday, December 3, from noon to 1 pm.
