Obituary

Lorraine K. Palmer (93) passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Newfound Lodge, RiverWoods in Durham N.H.

Born in Woodsville, N.H. on October 27, 1930 to Dorothy (Carter,Swift) Davis and Ralph Swift.

Lorraine attended schools in Portsmouth, N.H. and graduated in 1948. She married shortly after graduation and moved to Haverhill, N.H. where she raised her young family and enjoyed spending summers at their camp on Lake Armington. She moved back to her hometown where she met her second husband, Wayne Palmer. They purchased a home in Kittery, Maine where they lived for over 50 years.

Lorraine was an active, long time member of St Mark's UMC in Kittery, Maine. She enjoyed feeding the birds, gardening, reading, golfing, crafts of all kinds and was talented at playing the piano and organ. Lorraine was also a well known pastel artist of landscapes and house portraits. She won numerous awards, was a member and exhibitor with the NH Art Association and the Copley Society of Art in Boston. Her paintings were on exhibit throughout New England and are in many private collections. She was commissioned to do paintings of all the Portsmouth schools, and the Strawbery Banke area provided her with many subjects with colonial charm. While raising her children, she often painted in her kitchen or at the location with her easel. Later in life she painted on mailboxes, sea stones and wood selling her crafts at local craft stores along the seacoast.

Lorraine and her husband enjoyed traveling in their retirement with their many friends, often introducing themselves as,"Lorraine and Wayne from Kittery, Maine."

Lorraine loved entertaining for friends and hosting many family get togethers at her home making special memories for everyone. There were always cookies in the cookie jar; especially her "Good for you Cookies" that everyone loved.

She was predeceased by her husband Wayne and her parents.

Lorraine is survived by her children and their spouses: Margaret Koch and husband John Perham, Thomas Palmer and wife Joanne, Suzanne George and husband Michael, Richard Koch and wife Gloria, 10 Grandchildren, Chris, Kelly, Heath, Nicole, Jessica, Shana, Aaron, Shawn, Derek and Shelley, 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
