Obituary

Lorraine Theresa Thomas ( O'Brien ) 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 in Portsmouth, NH after a long intermittent battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Lorraine was born in Portsmouth, NH on October 11, 1944, the only child of Alexander and Rena (Sitterly) O'Brien.

Lorraine attended Saint Patrick School in Portsmouth, NH, and graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1962. During high school, Lorraine met her future husband and best friend Frank.

Lorraine and Frank dated long distance while Frank served in the Navy for four years, and Lorraine attended Salem Hospital School of Nursing in Salem, MA, graduating as the president of her class in 1965.

Lorraine and Frank married following graduation, and soon settled in Eliot, ME where they raised their three daughters Doreen, Deanna, and Deborah.

Lorraine practiced nursing for over 54 years as an RN at York Hospital, working in many positions including med/surg, ICU, oncology, and as a shift supervisor. Her last years were spent in community clinics such as flu vaccine, foot care, and blood pressure clinics in surrounding communities, making long term friendships with her patients. Lorraine had to retire from nursing at the age of 75 due to COVID precautions and her lung disease.

Lorraine & Frank had many wonderful vacations together including Aruba, St. Maarten, Greece, Ireland, Nova Scotia, Canada, and the US.

Lorraine considered herself as a news freak. She loved to watch the news, and read about world issues, as well as updating her medical knowledge. She also enjoyed Christian literature. She loved music and dancing. She could never sit still if good music was playing. Frank and Lorraine also sang in their church choirs for many years.

Lorraine's greatest loves were for her family, nursing, and her Christian faith.
