Lucille B. Melhorn, 90, of Williams Avenue in Kittery, passed peacefully in her home on June 30, 2023.
She was born in Hiram, Maine on Aug. 27, 1932, spent most of her childhood in Eliot, Maine and was a 1950 graduate of Eliot High School.
She met and married the love of her life of over fifty years, James F. Melhorn. Together they made their home and raised their family in Kittery.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura J. Conant of Greenland, NH., four sons; James H. (Skip) and his wife Susan Melhorn of Manchester, NH., Richard L. and his wife Kathy Melhorn of Gouldsboro, ME., Bruce L. and his wife Elaine Melhorn of South Berwick, ME., and Michael H. and his wife Elaine Melhorn of Kittery Point; grandchildren Brian L. and his wife Shari Melhorn of Kittery Point, and Richard D. Melhorn of Kittery, and Jan and her husband Marty Njaa of Paradise, Texas, her cat Abby and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who she truly loved and enjoyed spending time with who will miss her dearly.
Lucille was predeceased by her husband of over fifty years James F. Melhorn, her mother Olive K. Leavitt, and her two brothers Lucien K. Burbank, Carl G. Burbank, and her beloved dog Molly.
In her early years she worked as a Telephone Operator for Bell Telephone in Portsmouth NH. She also worked in the Tax Collectors Office for the Town of Kittery.
She was a Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wallingford-Harris Post Unit 89 of the American Legion in Kittery and a member Kittery Cardinals Drum and Bugle Corps of which she and Jim were both very active members of.
She was a very active member of her church, Second Christian Congregational United Church of Christ. She truly enjoyed spending her time with her church community, helping out wherever she could. She was a member of the Doorkeepers and she also delivered Meals on Wheels with her husband Jim.
She was an avid Beanie Baby collector and would take many trips and spend many hours with her friends going around buying them to add to her collection.
Lucille lived life to the fullest. Her most cherished memories were those of the times she spent with her family and friends.
Friends are invited to visit with Lucille's family on Sunday July 16th from 1-3pm in the Second Christian Congregational Church UCC 33 Government Street Kittery Maine 03904, where a funeral will be held at 3pm with the Rev Brad Hirst officiating.
