Lynne Davis
Smith
Sep 27, 1940 — Jan 4, 2021
Jupiter FL – Lynne Davis (Robitaille) Smith, 80, passed away at her summer home in Eliot, ME on the morning of Monday, January 4, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
Lynne was born on September 27, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of David E. and Lois W. Davis and later the proud sister of younger brother, David E. "Buzz" Davis II.
She is survived by her faithful and loving husband of 33 years, Kenneth A. Smith, Jr., with whom she enjoyed traveling, golfing, gardening, and just spending time together. Lynne and Ken married in 1987 bringing together two families of adult children. Throughout the years the family became one and enjoyed many vacations, celebrations, and family moments together.
Lynne is also survived by her children Greg Robitaille (and Kim Schulte) of WI, Leslie (Robitaille) Anton (and Joseph) of NH, Sharon (Smith) Metivier of ME and Mark Smith of NH, her grandchildren Megan, Joe, Emma, Zack and Izzy, her brother David "Buzz" Davis II (and Kris), all of the Garvin siblings (Skip, Carron, Tom, Rick, Bobby, Kitty), and many more family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Alfred Ronald (Ron) Robitaille and her son-in-law, Joseph C. Metivier II.
Lynne was Mom, Nana, and Gramma; an ever-present, loving, compassionate figure in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She will be forever remembered for her sound advice, guidance, support, sense of humor, and vault of Christmas cookies. Her children and grandchildren enjoyed spending time with her on beach trips, for special occasions, golf outings, or in the garden at her summer home in Maine. She loved each of them for their individual strengths and accomplishments.
Lynne also became a special big sister to the six children of the Garvin family after her parents and the Garvins became good friends in the early 1950's. She became a full-fledged member of the family in every way and when the Garvins moved to Mt. Kisco, NY, Lynne joined them, where she began her business career and met her first husband Ron. According to her brother Buzz and the Garvin siblings, Lynne had all the qualities of the ideal sister: a sympathetic ear, loyalty, and a big heart. She was always the one everyone could count on.
Lynne attended Mount Lebanon High School where she proudly became a Rockette as part of the school's marching band. She began her college career at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA pursuing a degree in Business Administration. Although her studies were interrupted, she never gave up on learning and studying. Her children remember her spending evenings at the dining room table learning short-hand so she could earn a promotion and years later completing coursework towards her college degree.
In 1995, Lynne graduated cum laude from the University of New Hampshire with a B.A. in Human Resources Management while working full-time. All who knew her recognized the value of hard-work and perseverance through her example. Lynne became an accomplished business woman who served as a role model for many who remarked on her intelligence, discipline and work ethic. She was a no-nonsense human resources executive who believed strongly in professionalism and treating her employees with respect. She was recognized for her talents by the Canandaigua Business & Professional Women's Club for Outstanding Achievement in Business Leadership. Lynne was well respected at each of the companies for which she worked during her career including Voplex Corporation in Canandaigua, NY, Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls, NY, Rule Industries in Burlington, MA, and NEBS in Peterborough, NH. She retired in 2002 from ACE Insurance in Michigan as the Midwest Human Resources Director.
Upon her retirement, Ken & Lynne enjoyed spending time together in Jupiter, Florida and Eliot, Maine. They traveled frequently, taking many wonderful trips and cruises together, including visiting the Caribbean Islands, England, Egypt, Italy, and many other European countries. The two golfed often and were able to attend various PGA tournaments in Florida. Lynne became an accomplished golfer and was an active member of the Cochecho Country Club Women's Golf League and the Eastpointe Golf Club where she made many friends. She is remembered as the model of a competitor with a positive outlook and a solid swing. She was also an avid gardener who loved to watch her hard work come to bloom each season. Lynne enjoyed walking through her yard telling her grandchildren about each plant and directing how best to spread the bark mulch. Her gardens will bring her family comfort and solace throughout the seasons.
A funeral service and gathering will be planned for the summer when all who loved Lynne, far and wide, can safely come together to celebrate the wonderful life she lived.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The Sandwich Historical Society in Sandwich, NH, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or the American Heart Association.
Care of the Smith Family has been entrusted to the J S Pelkey and Son Funeral Home.
