MADELAINE PERREAULT Madelaine Theresa (Demers) Perreault, 85, of 3 William Street, Somersworth, passed away on November 23, 2013, at the Hyder Family Hospice House, Dover, due to a combination of COPD and congestive heart failure, after a lengthy battle with diabetes. She leaves behind Robert Perreault, her husband of 61 years, and her two children, Denise Perreault of Aurora, CO and Dale Perreault of New York City. She was a communicant at Holy Trinity Church and had regularly participated in the Wednesday afternoon prayer group. Maddie was the daughter of Albert and Lumina Demers, the fifth of six Demers sisters (also Laurette, Toni, Vi, Lance and Claire) who grew up on Shorey Lane, Somersworth, during the Depression. The sisters' get-togethers through the years generated much raucous laughter and many an unprintable French phrase. Bob and Maddie met as freshmen at Somersworth High School and were both members of the Class of 1947. They joined their former classmates on road trip excursions from time to time. Maddie was employed in the offices of Robert Shoe, Tiara Footwear, Somersworth Shoe, Ferland Oil and the Somersworth City Hall. Always making time for her children after a long day of work, she loved playing ping pong, table hockey, Kismet, and Jumble. She won several bowling trophies and enjoyed painting ceramics. She spoke French with her daughter and helped her son with his French homework. She always rose to the challenge if/when her children procrastinated in their school projects. Maddie enjoyed visits to Jordan Marsh in Peabody for shopping, lunch and stocking up on oversized blueberry muffins. More recently, she was a smiling presence for all the salespeople at Macy's. She was a sweet and serene lady, and much beloved by her family, who will miss her beyond words. There will be no visiting hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Holy Trinity Church 404 High St. Somersworth with Rev. Michael S. Taylor, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation. Arrangements are entrusted to the Bernier Funeral Home 49 South St. Somersworth. www.bernierfuneralhome.net
