Obituary

KITTERY POINT, MAINE – Malcolm Eugene Foss died Thursday, December 23, 2021, at the miraculous age of 104.  He holds the Boston Post Cane as the oldest citizen of Kittery.

He was born in Northwood, New Hampshire, on September 5, 1917, to Frank L. and Hazel G. Foss.  One of five children, he attended elementary school in Northwood and Pittsfield, New Hampshire before graduating from R.W. Traip Academy in Kittery, Maine with the class of 1936.

He is survived by his three daughters, Nancy A. and J. Randall Lawson, Susan J. and Henry I. Martin, and Judith L. Lynch and Thomas Grieg all of Kittery Point; seven grandchildren, James Lawson, Maryann Welch, Michael Johnson, Sara Rodriguez, Katie Martin, Sandra Kelley and Jill O'Hara; 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie L. in 2009 and a son, Ronald Malcolm, in 1952.

Malcolm served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before joining the Army on March 10, 1941.  He served in the 101 st Army Radio Signal Intelligence Corp known as MS-5 on Honolulu, HI.  While in Hawaii, he sent an engagement ring through the mail to Marjorie L. Lewis.  They were married on January 21, 1945, soon after his return.  They enjoyed 64 years of marriage together.

He worked on the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 27 years, retiring as an Electrical Inspector in Nuclear Power in 1972.  Malcolm served more than 60 years at the First Christian Church of Kittery Point as a deacon, trustee and other positions before retiring as a Deacon Emeritus.

Malcolm became known as a  kind, gentle, amazing man who had the perfect car and driveway.  He was mowing his lawn and blowing snow at the age of 100+ years.

The Foss girls remember many road trips to the White Mountains or Kentucky to see their cousins.  Dad was always ready to travel, and his bag was always kept handy.

Services: A period of visitation for Malcolm will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, January 7 th at the J. S. Pelkey and Son Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery.  A 10 a.m. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the First Christian Church, 542 Haley Road, Kittery Point, ME on January 8, 2022. Masks are requested for all visitors.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to The First Christian Church of Kittery Point.
