Obituary

Kittery, Maine- Marcel Poitras passed away suddenly on December 29, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Marcel was born September 29, 1939 in Hartley, Canada to Emile and Eva Poitras, he was one of seven siblings.

He lived in Canada until his early 20's, shortly after moving to Vermont he was a surviving passenger in a bad car accident that burned over 90% of his body and after 10 months of recovering in the hospital, he met his future wife Janice and were married for coming up on 60 years, she sadly just passed a few months ago in September. They had five children together, their oldest son died at an early age from a heart condition in 2003.

Marcel was a self taught carpenter, he worked his whole life in the Seacoast area, and worked for many years for Joe Sawtelle, then branched off with his brothers Claude and Larry to build their own business called the French Connection. Many of the original buildings you see in Portsmouth, Newcastle and Hampton area they probably had a hand in building or remodeling.

Marcel was never a person to just sit around he was always tinkering on a project around the house or if a neighbor or family member needed a hand he was always more than welcome to help. He was a great husband, dad, person, and friend. Everyone who met him loved him. He was a kind soul who only wanted the best for everyone. He always loved a good family get together, he especially loved to see his grandchildren, when they were young they would crawl up into grandpa's arms and he would rock them to sleep and he held them while they would nap.

One of his many talents was singing and playing the guitar. He came from a very musical family, many if not all of the family get togethers consisted of sitting around singing and playing violins, guitars, accordions, spoons and whatever they could get their hands on. One of his nieces said "he had a voice like Kenny Rogers."

Marcel was predeceased by his wife Janice and we find comfort in knowing they are together again. He was also predeceased by his parents, his son Kevin Poitras, and his two brothers Larry and Claude Poitras.

Marcel is survived by Paul Poitras and wife June Poitras, his son Robert Poitras, his daughter Sandra Newick and husband Steve Clauson, his son Raymond Poitras and wife Tanya and eight grandchildren, Brian, Erica, Brittany, Amber Poitras, Carissa Newick, Mason and Madison Poitras, and Nicholas Clauson, sister Simone of Canada, brother Lucian and wife Ninette, brother Lorenzo and wife Rosemarie of Vermont and sister Rita of Florida and many nieces and nephews that he loved and adored very much.
